Presidential Debate or Un-Presidential Debacle?

Last night was the first of 3 scheduled presidential debates between the Republican incumbent, Donald Trump, and Democrat challenger, Joe Biden. The purpose of these debates is to give undecided voters the chance to compare the two candidates by allowing each discuss their plans in an unfiltered format. The night started off well enough. The two candidates walked on stage, moderator Chris Wallace set the expectations for the debate, and it derailed from there.

The debate was an unorganized onslaught of one-liner attacks from each of the debaters. Wallace did the best he could to corral the chaos, but the attempts were futile. It was more like a middle school lunchroom brawl than a presidential debate. Both sides interrupted each other with total disregard of the stately discourse typical of these events. The two septuagenarian candidates acted more like toddlers than accomplished professionals vying to win the votes to become "the world's most powerful individual". After the mudslinging 90 minutes finished, the viewer was left pondering what they had just witnessed. Even the political commentators had their mouths agape in utter disbelief as the cameras were turned to them. Trying to determine the winner of the debate was like declaring the victor of a bee sting. Both lost! And the biggest loser of the night was America. It was evident that hedging your future success on the outcome of the upcoming election is foolish. No matter which side wins the White House, the sun will still rise, and you will still need to provide for youself and for your family.
