Who's Responsible for This?

Taking one hundred percent responsibility for all outcomes is one of the fundamental principles of achievement. That's right, in order for you to reach your full potential you must take responsibility for everything in your life. You must give up excuses, blaming, and turning yourself into a victim of your circumstances. Just think about it. If someone else or something is to blame for your outcome, then how do you go about changing that outcome? You can't. You become like a kite on a windy day - being tossed around through your life whichever way the wind decides to blow. Stupid wind... Even though this concept seems obvious, we all feel the tendency to blame. Blaming fits really well into our sensibilities, and accepting blame may just hurt our fragile self-esteem! But ironically, accepting blame is the only way you'll truly be esteemed by anybody. Just look around and you'll see blaming everywhere you turn: -I'm overweight because of genetics. -My business is slow because of the economy. -I'm unhappy because my spouse is mean to me. -I tried to quit smoking, but they're so addictive. -I can't find a good job right now because nobody is hiring. And on, and on, and on... What's the solution? Focus instead on taking responsibility for influencing the outcome rather than assigning blame. Here are some example: -My genetics make it harder for me to lose weight which means that I need to work harder and eat healthier in order to have the body I desire. -My business is slow because I haven't yet found the right marketing message. -I need to make sure my spouse understands how much he/she means to me. -I let myself get addicted to cigarettes and so I'm going to kick the habit once and for all. -I'm going to change the way that I search for a job in order to stand out in the competitive job market. Imagine how much better the outcomes would be for the second group. Abdicating the responsibility of your situation to extraneous forces may make you feel better in the short-term, but you will find it difficult to achieve your goals. And isn't that what's important? Everything that happens in your life has one thing in common... You!
