Your Attitude Will Determine Your Altitude

Updated: Mar 25

All you Zig Ziglar fans out there will probably recognize the title of this article as he is the originator of the phrase. Well, actually the title is just a paraphrase... The full saying accredited to Mr. Ziglar is, "It's your attitude, more than your aptitude, that will determine your altitude." Well said Zig! I couldn't have said it better, which is why I borrowed a part of it for the title. The purpose of the saying is to succinctly convey to the reader that attitude is important. And boy is it important. Just think about your it, do you enjoy being around someone with a bad attitude? Rhetorical question... Of course you don't. Why would you?

Your attitude is the single most important factor that will determine your level of success. Anything is possible for people that have great attitudes. Think about all of the most successful people you know. I bet you they all have great attitudes. Typically mopey people don't achieve much.

There are 3 types of attitudes you can have, and only one will benefit you.

  • Negative - This one is obviously bad. The word negative is a synonym for bad. But this is the prevailing attitude among Americans. These people are poison to your dreams.

  • Neutral - Another word for this is apathetic. Apathy is also known as having a lassiez-fair attitude - Making it sound French makes the lazy losers out there feel like their being sophisticated by taking on this attitude. Que sera sera, right? Wrong! This is the worst of all types of attitudes. The bible says I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

  • Great - This is the only attitude that works well. People with great attitudes can't be denied. If you're able to consistently adopt a great attitude you will be massively successful.

Remember, you choose your attitude type. Make sure you choose wisely.

Steps to Take to Improve Your Attitude

  • Wake up early - If you start your day off by waking up late, you will feel rushed. By getting up early, you can take your time getting ready to start your day.

  • Exercise in the Morning - This will get your blood moving, increase endorphins, and give you a sense of accomplishment. The experts say that if you win the morning, you win the day.

  • Dress Like a Winner - You've heard the saying "if you look good, you feel good".

  • Smile Intentionally - Smiling will project outwardly to those around you that you have a great attitude.

  • Set and Accomplish Daily Goals - Achievement is a great way to improve your attitude.

  • Carry Yourself Like a Winner - If you want to be a winner, you must act like one.

  • Study Daily - Improving your skills will make you more confident, which will positively impact your attitude.

  • Avoid Negative Content - Sad songs, dark TV shows, News, etc. What goes in, will come out of you. Your attitude will be a reflection of the information that you fill your head with.

  • Surround Yourself With People Who Have Great Attitudes - Your attitude will be the same as the average attitudes of those with whom you spend the most time.

Do these things and you will see your attitude begin to improve, and thus, your results will begin to improve.
